Super Word Nerd is Natalie Secretan – a PR professional based out of Toronto, Canada.

This blog is many things. It started out as a PR blog, but has evolved into a creative outlet for me and a place where I can raise awareness of important issues. I love writing and I love sharing stories with people. It may not be as structured as most other blogs you run into, but I promise you I will either make you smile or raise an eyebrow.

I first discovered my passion for writing as a child growing up in England. I would write to my grandparents in Canada with committed regularity. We would send air-mail letter forms back-and-forth to each other filled with stories, pictures and lots of kisses. As my relationship grew with my grandparents, so did my love for words and the beauty and power they have to touch people.

I experimented with various forms of writing. At the age of eight, I won first prize in the Pied Piper poetry competition. I went on to graduate with honours and an English Specialist degree from the University of Toronto and developed a fascination with etymology and the origins of words, and of course, all the different techniques used in writing. During this time, I worked as the arts and entertainment editor for the campus newspaper and also wrote an editorial column entitled, Upside Down, featuring the satirical side of life. In my final year of study, I won the R. W. Van Fossen Award for Excellence in English. Upon occasion, I have been known to recite Chaucer in Middle English. That, my friends, is why I am a super-dooper word nerd.

I now work as a community manager and social media strategist in Toronto. The rest you’ll have to read about along the way.
