Bison Burgers

Bison is an excellent lean protein alternative to chicken and tuna and is relatively easy to find in the grocery store.

BisonBurgerWith fewer calories and less fat than beef, it’s a rich source of minerals and iron without the cholesterol. A 3-oz serving of bison contains 2 g of fat and 143 calories, whereas beef weighs in at 9 g of fat and 211 calories.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground bison
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 3 tbsp dehydrated onion flakes
  • 1 Omega-3 egg

Preparation

Preheat the barbeque or grill. Being careful not to overwork the mixture, combine all ingredients together. Form into 4 patties and place on the bbq or grill. Cook for 10 minutes or until meat is thoroughly cooked – about 5 minutes per side. Use a spatula to flip the burger so you don’t puncture it with a fork and let out all the juices. Place on whole wheat buns and top with your favorite burger condiments (be mindful of how many calories you’re adding, and watch your salt intake).
