It may seem like a funny name to call a fitness blog, but I’m a Super Word Nerd first and foremost. By day, I am a full-time social media expert and digital marketing professional and by night, I’m a freelance writer; while on the side, I am a certified fitness leader.
This blog is many things. It started out as a PR blog in college, but has evolved into a creative outlet for me and a place where I can raise awareness of important issues. I love writing and I love sharing stories with people.
I first discovered my passion for writing as a child growing up in England. I would write to my grandparents in Canada with committed regularity. We would send air-mail letter forms back-and-forth to each other filled with stories, pictures and lots of kisses. As my relationship grew with my grandparents, so did my love for words and the beauty and power they have to touch people.
I experimented with various forms of writing. At the age of eight, I won first prize in the Pied Piper poetry competition and continued to write throughout my childhood. Later, I went on to graduate with honours and an English Specialist degree from the University of Toronto, developing a fascination for etymology and the origins of words, and of course, all the different techniques used in writing. During this time, I worked as the Arts and Entertainment Editor for the weekly campus newspaper, managing a four-page section and a robust editorial team of writers. I also wrote an editorial column entitled, Upside Down, featuring a satirical look at life. In my final year of study, I won the R. W. Van Fossen Award for Excellence in English. Upon occasion, I have been known to recite Chaucer in Middle English.
So, I am a Super Word Nerd and a Social Media Geek with a penchant for working out, eating healthy and staying fit. As a freelance writer, I have published countless fitness, health and lifestyle articles, drawing upon my 25+ years of experience as a certified fitness leader working in the health and fitness industry.
